Nelspruit is a town located in the province of Mpumalanga in South Africa. The Nelspruit Airport is located just a short drive away from the town. This airport is generally well developed and features souvenir shops, cafes, ATMs and several car hire desks near the terminals. Despite being a small town, Nelspruit has little to offer compared to other large cities in South Africa such as Cape Town and Johannesburg. But this doesn’t mean that the town isn’t worthy a visit as it still makes one of the best destinations in Africa to spend a vacation.

Travelling around Nelspruit is best done in a car and you will enjoy the meandering mountain passes and the beautiful sceneries of the town. But the area surrounding Nelspruit Airport and the town is quite wild in some way but makes a great place to drive around in leisure. On the way, you might see some small game as you drive and some baboons and vervet monkeys which are very common in the area. Nelspruit itself has some few attractions and you can rent a car to reach most of them conveniently. Even if the attractions aren’t the best, the area surrounding Nelspruit Airport makes an interesting drive that you will definitely enjoy.

One of the places that you should definitely not miss is the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens for the best tropical atmosphere. The garden is located on your way to White River just before getting to the casino. There are several waterfalls, loop walks and bridges and a number of interpretive signs to guide you through. You will be charged to pay an admission cost and just like other places in South Africa, you will be expected to pay for car minders. The area can feel quite isolated and quiet and security in the area isn’t guaranteed as such.

After hiring a vehicle at a local car hire company, make a point of driving to the casino and possibly try your luck. After this, Nelspruit is great town to go for a shopping expedition and you will find three huge shopping malls conveniently located in the town. Shopping malls near Nelspruit Airport are patrolled by security just like those ones in the town center and your safety is thus always guaranteed. Most of the visitors touring Kruger National Park and nearby sights such as Blyde River Canyon use Nelspruit as their base.
